Medications That Can Cause Diarrhoea

Diarrhoea can be a common side effect of medicines, both prescription and non-prescription. Some include:

  • Antibiotics
  • Antacids
  • Weight loss medications
  • Chemotherapy drugs
  • Laxatives

Many antibiotics in particular cause diarrhoea. Often the diarrhoea is mild and will clear up without treatment. However, if you think a medicine you are taking is causing diarrhoea, contact your healthcare professional.
